England have this afternoon, named their final squad of twelve players to compete at the Netball World Cup in Sydney which takes place between 7th–16th August this summer.

Head Coach Tracey Neville and the national selectors have chosen a team that is brimming with experience and versatility. They have also revealed who will be leading the team when the tournament gets underway.

Reflecting on the selection, Neville said "The training response from this group of athletes over the last few weeks has been somewhat incredible and has definitely made this selection task very difficult. The coaches feel that the selected squad has the experience, talent, consistency and determination to fulfil the rigorous schedule of the World Cup and put the performance out on court that is worthy of an England team."

Captaining the side will be 2014 World Player of the Year, Geva Mentor. The evergreen defender will be competing in her fourth World Cup having amassed a phenomenal 105 caps.

Congratulations to Tameside U14’s – National Club Champions!

Eighteen of the Countries top teams battled it out to win the Golden prize of being crowned National Club Champions, on 23/24 May 2015

Tameside’s U14s were dominant in their first day of action, winning their first group of games 29 - 10 v Royals and 30-8 v Chevrons. They were then placed into another group which they again had to win, to ensure that they made the play offs for the top 6 positions on Sunday. With a full squad of 12 taking to the court, the girls went on to win the group with convincing wins over Essex and Grangetown.

With the job done, the girls returned to the hotel for a well earned rest and a bit of team building with lead coach Lauren Palmer hosting Tameside's Got Talent! Unfortunately no stars were unveiled with any talent, off court!

The girls were up bright and early Sunday morning and all 4 shooters left 45 minutes earlier than the rest of the squad to get some shooting practice in, before the 9.30am big match against Turnford. As a spectator, you could see that the squad were warming up with a purpose and a belief that they could turn over one of their biggest rivals. The first quarter got under way and although Tameside finished the quarter 7-3 infront, you could not disrespect Turnford and relax. Tameside then eased into another gear and dominated the rest of the match winning with a massive 29-8 score. Tameside went on to win against Mid Sussex 28-2 which secured them a place in the National Clubs Final.

After results from other groups came in, they quickly realised that they were in for a Northwest final against Chester, who had beaten Tameside in the Regional final. After a lengthy team talk the girls were ready to take to the court to right the wrong of losing at Regionals. It was a fantastic game to watch, with both teams showing exactly why the Northwest is best! Throughout the four quarters, Tameside managed to hang on to their slender lead over Chester. With 90 seconds to go it was almost unbearable to watch as Chester pushed to a 2 goal deficit. But they needn't have worried as a fantastic interception from Rachel Carter saw Brogan Slicker cooly put the ball in the net to go once again into a 3 goal lead. The final whistle went to the cheers of proud mums and dads up in the balcony, the girls had done it!

Head Coach Paul Harper said " I am so pleased for our girls, the effort that they have put into their training has been so commendable. Targets were set prior to each game and every target was met. I am so proud of lead coach, Lauren Palmer who has worked so hard to ensure that the things we were working on in training were being implemented through match play. She is a fantastic coach and I know it means so much to her. Well done everyone!"

Congratulations to Tameside U16’s in the National Club Finals

Tameside’s U16s were in Redbridge, Essex for the National Club finals on 2nd / 3rd May.

In the early group stages on Saturday, Tameside won their group with wins against Sutton Royals and Huddersfield Giants. After winning their second group of games, Tameside qualified for playing for positions 1 to 6 on Sunday.

Sunday - With a win against Telstars, Tameside were sufficiently warmed up to play in their biggest match of the competition so far, against a very good Turnford squad.

Both teams came out strong and hard during the first quarter and it was Turnford who won the quarter 7-6. During the second quarter Tameside's showcase netball set tongues wagging as they clawed back into the lead and finished the quarter ahead 16-13. But Turnford were not going to give in and fought back to a one goal deficit going into the last quarter. After end to end netball, it was Tameside that dug in and gave their all to win the game 37-32. A fantastic match that was worthy of any final!! The win against Turnford secured Tameside’s place in the National Final.

After a ridiculously long 6 hour wait Tameside took to the court in the final against Woodley. The teams couldn't be split during the first quarter but it was Tameside that just edged out in front by 1 goal. The game changed so much during the next two quarters with both teams at stages taking the lead. Going into the final quarter, Tameside were ahead 26-23 but just as the other quarters went, Woodley pulled back again. Even up to the last few seconds, you couldn't predict how the game would finish but unfortunately after a level game, Woodley scored in the dying seconds to win the title.

After such an amazing game, the coaching staff were shattered too! Looking past the result, the standard of netball that the girls showed on court throughout the weekend was just breath taking at times and they should be so proud of what they achieved 2nd in the Country!!!

Well done to all of the girls who took part and Tameside Netball club would like to thank the staff and parents who were so supportive throughout the weekend.
