Mira Tallentire - C award umpire
I would describe myself as a relatively new umpire with the most experience umpiring local leagues and junior club matches. I am the club umpire for Westmoreland Wanderers Netball club and last year umpired fixtures in the Carlisle league as well as county events
What got you into Umpiring in the first instance?
I am extremely interested in netball and play a lot myself, before covid hit I decided to start my umpiring out of interest, and it is a qualification to add to a future CV. My club coach asked if anyone was interested, and I thought it would be a good to learn more about the sport and that it would help my performance on court.
Why do you enjoy your role within netball umpiring?
I love netball, watching it and playing. I umpire for my club and enjoy helping the younger ones develop. And enjoy meeting other umpires as well as well as learning from the more experienced.
What would your one piece of advice to someone who was thinking about starting umpiring?
Be confident! You know the rules and the correct calls so be confident enough to make them and don’t be influenced by players. If you act confident teams on court are more likely to trust your calls and respect your decisions.
