Netball Coaches, England Netball Needs You!
Do you love netball? Are you passionate about coaching? Are you an active coach? Do you have a strategic brain, or have worked in strategy? If you answer yes to these questions, please read on.

It is a really exciting time for Netball coaching in England. With a recently expanded department, England Netball are about to embark on the development of a new long term plan for coaching.

Over the last five years, England Netball have focused on putting the player at the heart of everything we do. By understanding the different types of netballer accessing the game, we are able to tailor our offer to meet their motivations, needs and aspirations with the ultimate aim of keeping them playing for as long as possible.

The next stage of the ‘participant centred approach’ is to understand the motivations, needs and aspirations of our coaching workforce. We have spent time understanding the different types of coaching roles in England. Over the next six months we will undertake a wide-scale research project to fully investigate who our coaches are, where they are currently coaching, where they would like to coach and what they need to support them to be the best they can be. Based on our research findings, a plan will be formulated to enhance England Netball’s current offer and look at new ways to ensure we have the best coaches out there, providing the best possible netball experience for their participants.
It is recognised that the development of our new plan for coaching will be further enhanced by support, guidance and constructive challenge from a group of independent experts, who have relevant coaching knowledge of grassroots through to high performance netball. In April, we will be re-launching England Netball’s Coaching Advisory Group (CAG).

The CAG will support the Coaching Manager to;
  • Develop England Netball’s long term coaching strategy.
  • Ensure that the new plan for coaching is being implemented effectively and in line with the research findings.
  • Introduce new initiatives and programmes in coaching.
  • Advise the Board via the Board Member with portfolio for coaching on areas requiring development and any critical issues within the landscape.

The group will be run in accordance with the Terms of Reference and meet three to four times per year. Meeting dates and times will be determined based on the member’s availability. Meetings for this year are planned for April, July and October. Travel expenses will be covered and meetings held centrally to the CAGs membership.

The CAG will be led by an internally appointed member of staff, England Netball’s Coaching Manager and chaired by the Board Member with portfolio for coaching.

We are looking to appoint six expert volunteers from netball, with the ability to think broadly about coaching, to represent the following groups of coaches;

We want members that have local, county and regional experiences or ideas that could be rolled out nationally with an appreciation of the impact this can have on England Netball’s 10:1:1 vision.

Appointments will be made via an expression of interest. An independent expert with wider understanding of coaching will also be appointed to the group bringing the total membership to nine.

If you have any questions or for an informal chat regarding a specific role, please contact Katy Ritchie on 07595 086894.

If you are interested in being part of the CAG at this very exciting time, please submit the expression of interest form to the address below by Friday 20th February.
