A Day in the Life of an England Player - Sara Bayman

1/5/2015

Picture
The day in the life of an England Netball player; what it’s like to be a professional sports woman and work at the same time.

For all netball and Superleague fans, Sara Bayman will be a household name. A strong mid court player, Sara currently is captain of the 3rd placed Superleague team, Manchester Thunder and a essential part of the England Team. Aside from being part of the 3rd best netball team in the world and the arguably one of the strongest Superleague team at the moment (despite the shocking defeat), Sara also fits in a part time job!

We had fans send in their questions to Sara to find out more about how she finds everyday life.

1.    What is your current job role?
Netball development officer for Cheshire. This involves working in the county supporting clubs, schools, back to netball and I also run youth camps.

2.    What does a normal day with training and work look like for you?
6.30am training, 8.30am office for work/meetings 4pm leave work and then 7.30pm training.

3.    How did you get into netball? Did you ever think you would be where you were now?
I started playing when I was 9 at primary school. I had no idea I’d play for England I just had fun with my friends.

4.    How do you find balancing a job with a netball career?
It can be very tiring but I’m lucky that work are quite flexible. Some of the other England girls have it tougher.

5.    If you weren’t playing for England/Thunder, what would be your dream job?
I’d love to be a pro surfer, chasing the sun and always at the beach

6.    What advice would you give to promising young players who will be coming up the ranks and holding down a job too?
Prioritise your time. Make sure you know what you have to do in a week and plan when you’re going to do it.

7.    Favourite thing about playing for England and Thunder?
The friends you make and the places you get to visit

8.    Where do you think you will be in 10 years time?
I have no idea!! Happy and healthy hopefully

9.     If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re never going to please everybody so don’t put so much pressure on yourself.

This weekend Thunder secured 3rd place in the NSL final putting behind their shocking defeat to Hertfordshire Mavericks at the M.E.N the previous weekend. Despite their loss, the match had amazing coverage getting a crowd of over 4,000 in just 3 weeks of ticket sales! With the sky game coverage and the increasing popularity of netball as a spectator sport- the future of netball is exciting.

Sara Bayman and the England Team also would like to invite YOU to the Netball Unites Evening in aid of Cancer Research UK and Mind - Click Here for more...

Sara has been named in the squad for the upcoming test series vs Trinidad and Tobago. Tickets are available for 6th May at University of Bath, 8th May at the Copperbox arena and 11th May at the Echo Arena, Liverpool. This will be the last time the England team play together before leaving for 2015 netball world cup in Australia.
